Gory Anti-Smoking Ads, to accompany gruesome package warnings..

In a follow up to my earlier post about the gruesome cigarette package warnings, and the response it got, I thought it would be right to post the latest development up here.

As if gory package warnings are not enough, the Australian government has placed sickening ads on TV showing real body parts being dissected to reveal the damage smoking does to the body.

The ads titled "Artery", "Lung", "Tumor", "Tar", "Stroke" and "Eye" will be run on primetime TV from March 15 (DARK HORIZON RELEASE DATE!!!!!)

I do believe I've seen some of these before.

Fortunately, I'm not the type who is easily disgusted by that sort of thing.

Yeah I know they came out in 1997, but were stopped for 3 or so years. No point explaining this for the non Australians, but pretty much they're coming back on.

Nah one was of package warnings, these are TV advertisements. And couldn't be bothered bringing back a dead thread.

So they're actually showing this **** on TV?

People shouldn't be force-fed this disgusting propaganda, IMO.

Uh I never see pro-smoking ads on TV.

No, but you sure do see it in a lot of movies and television shows.

People are influenced by such things, you know.

Yes, but people smoking in TV shows and movies isn't intended to sway people's opinions.

This **** is. And I don't see why it is necessary.

That was way back when nobody thought that cigarettes harmed you at all.

Let's show the side effects of gonorrhea, syphilis, and herpes on public television to help convince children to wear restrictive headgear.

You are opposed to these commercials? Last time I checked, these companies don't make money everytime a smoker quits. Unless it was sponsored by Nicarette....

These commecials are for the benefit of people who are killing themselves... o.o

I am not opposed to anti-smoking commercials and ads.

I just think this is a disgusting and unnecessary method for conveying a message.

Would rather stand by your opinion and smoke yourself to death if you were a smoker? Scaring people out of it is really the only way.

Also note the language they use, every cigarette is causing you harm... or whatever. People think one cigarette doesn't hurt them... so everyday they can convince themselves they are doing no harm...
