Drawing Comp 40 or 42 - The Noobie

Congrats to Hikari for runnering-up.

This competition is a little different. You're not just creating art this time. You're creating a concept. You've got to think along the same lines as those who came up with every single mario game character - what makes this guy fit? How do we size him, set his proportions, what specail characteristics does he have to make him likeable, dispisable, memorable?

Your job is to create a new character for the mario series - friend, foe, major character or quickly stomped baddy. You can't just, say, draw a realistic-looking dragon and say it's bowser's pet. That wouldn't fit. You got to keep it simple, yet powerful.

You can draw the character by itself or in a scene of some sort - whatever makes it easiest for you to make this noobie fit in.

Hmmm. Need to think of something, since this looks like something I've got a chance at getting at least top 5.

Are we talking like... completely new? Or say based off?

Yay, my first art comp entry!

Anyway I've actually came up with two characters but I'm guessing that I can only enter one so here she is (I'll post the other in an art topic in a matter of moments):



Turna is a tomboy who practices judo as a hobby. She'd most likely appear in one of Mario's RPG games as a partner, antagonist (i.e. Popple or T. Koopa Jr.), or as a judo fighter like the ones in the dojo on Paper Mario.

Yes I am now aware that I spelled chop suey wrong. I looked it up when I got home from school.

To my knowledge Mario lacks the generic shark baddy so I drew this and colored it in a couple minutes. Not my best work but I wanted to enter a competition for once.

Are we allowed to enter a fancharacter we've already invented or do we have to create an entirely new character? Cuz I have like 5 gazillion Mario OCs.

Name: Noops (the nerd)
Bio: The Mario Bros. have E.Gadd, Cackleta has Fawful, but what about Bowser? He doesn't have an evil nerd to make his toys. So I invented Noop. As highly intellegent as he is, he's not very clever. He wears swirly glasses, a red boa-tie, and blue fluffy boots. And that's HAIR on his head, not wings...

What a brilliant idea for a competition!

I'd enter with my 'Shig' (see avatar) but I think I'll come up with something new for it.

Can you enter more than once? I'm torn between designing a stompable enemy and a proper character.
