| QUOTE | Welcome to the Un-Official New Super Mario Brothers Demo. In this, I have tried to replicate World 1-1 of the Nintendo DS title, "New Super Mario Brothers" as best as humanly possible, based on preview videos released of the game from Game Developers Conference 2006. It is not 100% accurate, and should not be considered represenative of what the final game will play like - however, it does act as a fairly nice taste of what's to come.
Originally this was created because I was going to release the game's engine, open-source, but the amount of fiddling required just to get it to run this one level bug free has made me wary of doing so. Either way, I have included the .CCA file (openable in Clickteam's The Games Factory, Multimedia Fusion, or better) for the curious. The level you see here was made to demonstrate my engine's features. The level itself (including the NSMB-alike interface) took roughly a week to construct. I've been messing with the underlying engine on and off for six months now. |
In other words, it's win-win:
- You get a pretty okay, if rough, Mario Engine to tinker with in MMF.
- You get to kinda-sorta try the first level of New Super Mario Brothers. I had to make a couple of exceptions; I used a Gametrailers GDC video to base the level off of. I obviously don't know where ALL the items and secrets are, so I had to take guesses on what was in certain item blocks and which pipes you can go down. Besides that, it's translated pretty well.
The engine, if you're wondering, was constructed because I felt bad after I recieved a few complaints about MarioWeen's engine. It was sort of a "See? I'm not horrible!" sort of thing. I lost interest, until I decided to pick it up again in hopes to release it open-source. I commented on a lot of the engine, but like I said, it's still kind of rough. It's no "All Mario Engine", but maybe some of you could get some use out of it.

Oh, incase you can't open the CCA, I use a small handful of extensions: - INI Plus - DMC2 - Fastloop You can get them at a place like this. The CCA included is just the engine, too. If you want, I'll gladly post up the CCA for the entire demo - I didn't put that in there because that would've nearly doubled the size of the download. :P The entire Demo's CCA uses a ton more extensions, too. Window Object, Window Size, Joypad Object... and it's MMF1.5 only. :P
