I figured I might as well make the official topic to show it's alive.
First, a little history lesson:

Luigi's Game's actually been in development in some form or another for the past 4 years. When I first found MFGG in 2002, I decided to make "The Luigi Game!" as a test to see what I could do with all the graphics. It was complete **** and the plot/setting just changed to whatever I felt like. It lost all its Mario qualities pretty early on.
In 2004, after I got this computer, I decided to restart the project and try one of these new-fangled static engines. The engine also ended up being complete ****. I abandoned the project, but kept working on the plot. I'd randomly space out in school and start thinking about how to fix plotholes and new characters to add and stuff.
2005, with RII, I tried restarting the engine. That didn't go anywhere fast, but I wouldn't let the plot die.
A month ago, the plot was ironed out to the best I can possibly get it, and I decided I would try working on an engine again. I posted an engine test earlier, but now I actually have something presentable. It's mostly just shooting the living daylights out of goombas.

Right click/save as
All the files you need should be included.

Controls (should be changeable eventually)
Shift (on the main screen) - Bring up menu/confirm menu choice
Shift - Jump
Shift against wall - Wallkick
Ctrl - Fire
1 - Cycle back through weapons
2 - Cycle forward through weapons

In this test, I have the Assault Rifle and Pistol working. I think the pistol's a bit too
powerful, so I'll scale that back.

What parts? I've had only minor slowdown issues on my computer, so I can't tell.

This engine is pretty awesome, especially since Luigi doesn't seem "heavy" like a lot of fangames tend to do.

I still think the bullets could use hitscan, though

... and the music that plays during the level is f***ing awesome

Mainly whenever I'm shooting while 5+ goombas are on the screen

Ohh okay, that shouldn't be too much of a problem (I don't think there'll ever be this many enemies onscreen at once).

Add a Time attack mode where you have to kill all the goombas as fast as you can...

That's why I'm addicted to this little engine...

So...addicting...O_O

Brilliant!

I very much enjoyed this. nod.gif

And as I said on MSN, using SMB3 prize chests are ammo boxes was very clever.

Any plans for unnarmed combat (as in allowing Luigi to kick or punch enemies)?

I was thinking of doing that, but I just have to think about how to implement it. It probably wouldn't be anything too complicated though.

Blood could use some more work. Other than that, this is very interesting.
