There's a section talking about how the limited technology of the time affected Mario's design. There's also some original concept art for the original Donkey Kong game, as well. You can watch it on Google Video here. Be warned - the whole thing's over half an hour long.

I took a good look at the base you used, and saw some minor mistakes, which I have fixed in the attached image. Firstly is the eye. Yes, it's pointing the wrong way. Secondly, there is a faint line separating his hand from his overalls that you missed, leading to the "flipping off" part of the sprite. Attached Image --------------------
