| QUOTE (Banana Head @ May 2 2006, 07:52 PM) | Goddamnit it, my entry IS a sprite, heres proof =P
Animation to prove fluid animation is possible
And a split-up sheet, to prove that it wasnt drawn all at once, and there for isnt pixel art
|
That's... not really proof. If it was done pixel by pixel, then it's alright, but it's clear that it isn't. Just because it is in seperate pieces doesn't mean anything. It's seperated, that's nice, but that doesn't mean it isn't pixel art. In fact, it'd be better if it was pixel art since that's actually done pixel by pixel. The point of these comps are to make somewhat useable sprites you'd find in a fangame pixel by pixel. Your entry was drawn in a program, which shows, and that really can't be accepted. If you traced over it in paint or something, that'd be a different story.

As far as I'm concerned, as long as its usable in a game, and isn't just scenery, its a sprite. Whether or nor it was done pixel by pixel is irrelevant, especially considering my style would be damn near impossible to replicate doing it pixel by pixel.
And before anyone jumps on me about the antialiasing, there's absolutely nothing that says a sprite cant be antialiased, especially if its made with software in mind that supports an alpha channel, which this was.

| QUOTE (Admiral Delmore @ May 2 2006, 06:46 PM) | | No, not in sprite comps. Way back before people had disputes over what it was meant by sprite, it meant pixel by pixel sprites that could be used in games, not drawn in photoshop and colored with brush tools, but done pixel by pixel in paint or something like that. It may seem irrelevant, but that's what the sprite comp is, otherwise it'd be a drawing comp with smaller entries. |
So, just because it wasn't done pixel by pixel, its not a sprite? That's like saying games like SMRPG, or DKC don't use sprites, which is obviously not true.

It may be a sprite, but it isn't qualified since it wasn't pixel by pixel. I'm not sure on the prerendered sprites thing though, so if you feel like making a Culex model, shrinking it, get rid of some colors, then it may be accepted.
