Description:

"Another nostalgic FZ title, based on the classic fangame. This is Super Mario in classic, arcade "Donkey Kong" style single screen courses. Can you collect all the stars to save Princess Peach before the timer runs out? For one or two players."

File:

http://www.fzgames.com/games.php#alpha100

I'd prefer if it linked to that exact URL, the games page using the anchor to jump straight to the game, but if the link has to point straight to the exe or you upload your own copy or whatever then I don't mind.

Make sure the "100 Magic Stars" part is included in the name, it's important so that people don't confuse it with the original game.

Hmm, archaic fangame style. Not that good of a move :/

Firstly, take a look at this screenshot of my rather bold accomplishment:
user posted image
As you can clearly see, I have obtained 106 stars in the first level. The game advertizes only 100. Why have you lied to me and made this game so easy?!
Spoilers:
Apparently, when a game ends, you forgot to INITIALIZE GLOBAL COUNTERS at the title screen! This means I had one life, and my previous score.

I demand a full refund of the 15 minutes lost to this pathetic lying P.O.S. fangame. And please send it back to the late 90's, when this was considered programming mastery. (built-in platform movement WTF)

*Withdraws submission*

Well, thanks for the bug report.

No thanks for the attitude.

*Wonders if this guy knows the importance of the names 'Super Mario Alpha', 'Biebersoft' and 'FreakZone' in fan gaming history*

"Please send it back to the late 90's" - did you look under the title screen? 1998.

Personally, I don't think the importance of the name really matters. Your place in history doesn't exactly make you INvulnerable to criticism. :/

lol fixed typo

I had no intent to impress anybody with programming. I just wanted to make something fun. Fun to make, fun to play, something which'd actually get finished.

But I guess today fan gaming is just about ****ing competition of who can take more hours out of their nonexistant social life to make a clunky SMB3 clone which won't get finished anyway.

And where did I say that you had to impress anybody with programming? My point was that you should expect criticism whether or not you're a part of fangame history. Even though Tech's reply was a bit harsh.

For what it's worth, I enjoyed the game (though I guess I'm a lot more tolerant of the built-in platform movement than others and tend to place fun over OMG ENGINE).

File updated.

Well, most people seem to like it. But then again most people aren't up their own asses with clunky SMB3 clone static engines and 10000000 levels. I did contemplate giving it a static engine but frankly I felt it wasn't worth it for such a simple, basic game.

I guess I'm still submitting it. I've fixed all of the bugs which have been mentioned and updated it. No more invincible goombas (as far as I can tell) and the counters reset themselves. That's what you get for not having beta testers, but it was a worthy sacrifice to get it released quickly.

I think it's actually pretty fun. I think the game's well polished when it comes to graphics, and shouldn't just be tossed aside because of TGF's standard platform movement. Sure, it could have been better gameplay wise, but there's far worse that gets submitted.

Thankyou. smile.gif

The whole reason I released this was because of the topic in the general forum discussing 'scathing reviews' and fan game expectations. Then strong-opinion-man up there proved the point of the thread.

Yes I do. they were really influential in the evolution of modern Super Mario fangames, HOWEVER games like these are nowadays looked down upon, since people's tastes have evolved to a larger scale.

However you can cover it up by fixing this thing up a bit (like you did, I'll have to try this again later).

And for the record, I said what I said about default platform movement because it's really frustrating with stop-dead and sticking in ceilings. The desert level is FRUSTRATING because of it. So I don't care if it plays like SMB3, SMB1, or whatever, just make sure that you know of the frustrating flaws of the built-in platform movement.

EDIT: Okay, this is much better. Stop dead still makes me want to scream in pain in the desert level (I jump, hit a wall, and can't move... now I fell into a convenient pit. *cries*)

Maybe I'll fix the stuff in the desert level (I didn't design that level, I had been designing my levels in specific ways to try and avoid bugs). It's just those two blocks in the way down the bottom, really. But I still don't think it was nice of you to call it a "P.O.S.".

:/ You've really got to trim that ego of yours.

This is 2006 btw, not '98. I find the engine very lacking. Just fix up the collision a bit and it would be a lot better. Because... this game isn't totally bad. The levels and such are fine. Collision... that's all.

Huh?
It's just a policy... plus installers are just icky.
Even if I accept it I'm going to put in the original game, regardless.
