The trailer had me pumped. This movie looked awesome. But did it live up to it's standards? Honestly, no. Maybe, it's just me expecting too much from it, but I didn't like it as much as I thought I would.
This is not a bad movie. Don't get me wrong, it is a blast. It's a Mission Impossible, what do you expect? The movie appears to be shot in a different style then Mission: Impossible. I really don't know how to say this, but it didn't feel at all like the first one. The camera angles are shaky. I'm starting to see more and more of this lately. I guess it's to get the mood right? Or maybe to make you feel like you're there? I don't know but this film pushes it. So much that I noticed quality of the picture even dropped. That was an annoying side effect.
However, action scenes aplenty are awesome. Especially the bridge scene. That whole part was kickass. Some of them seem "Impossible" like, unbelievable. But it kept me entertained and in awe. The other thing I didn't like as much was the story. It had it's share of surprises but the whole damsel in distress thing is really overused. But, hey, great writing on their part anyway. Also, the villian's death scene was way too fast and common.
Anyway, the movie was a blast and Cruise did very well. I suggest you see it for a action blockbuster. A great first movie for J.J. Abrams.
And holy crap Philip Seymour Hoffman. One of the best villians ever.
