I've been thinking about this for a while...Now that we have Wii with its innovative gameplay and X360/PS3 with their pretty graphics...
What is gaming to promise us in the future? We have pretty graphics, what's next? What other possibilities of gameplay are there? Now that the gameboy is gone...Where are we heading to with portables?
This is something really interesting to discuss. So I say........Discuss.

I personally think that gaming will probably induce us more into the "in" feeling we'll get when we play the Wii. Give your opinions and thoughts.

Same old, overall. Same games, with better graphics. Same games with different controls. Every once in a while something special and unique will come out. Because talented devs still exist. The most interesting things that will happen will be on PC. Because no gatekeepers. But, alas, nobody will ever hear of them. For consoles, downloadable games will spice things quite up a bit, I am hoping.

I think there will always be a fork in the road. Especially with Nintendo in the midst of it all.

Down one road, you'll have your same old consoles with upped graphics. On the other you'll have a unique system that is fun to play. What happens next is entirely dependent on which road consumers are going to take.

As for Gameboy, I do believe that they'll continue to keep the Nintendo DS going strong. Perhaps it is the next Gameboy.

Well since the revealing of the Wii. Sony has already adapted something thats remotely same innovative-wise.

So we do know it wont be the traditional ways of just D-pads/D-sticks and buttons.

edit: unless Wii and PS3's new controller both fail.

I think PS3 will fail... not because of the controller. But because of the ridiculous price. And I really, really, REALLY hope it does fail. Because if not that tells the gaming industry we'd be okay with paying that kind of money. I hope fans of Sony will use their heads.

from the messege boards and stuff, the PS3 fanboys are still going to buy it. sad.gif
And they kept saying that the Wii is going to fail.
I really dont see that happening.

I think the Wii will enjoy a success similar to Nintendo DS. If it gets the game support it needs, that is.

In the future:
-all games (and all other media also) will be downloadable
-most games will be distributed as seperate episodes
-indie games will be ubiquitous even on consoles, via downloads
-there will be lots of competing Steam-like distribution services, and these will replace publishers (or the publishers will turn into them)
-except for the consoles there'll be one each, controlled by the manufacturer, naturally
